for Veterans by Veterans
1914-2023
The ghost of Christmas past and our future together as Veterans.
From the stories of ceasefires and football matches in France in December 1914 to images of troops spending the holiday season away from friends and family in Afghanistan or other battle spaces in recent years, Christmas is a difficult time for many serving in the Armed Forces today. It is also a tough time for the 3.5 million veterans and their dependents, as well as those families who have lost loved ones in conflict; we mustn't forget them.
Christmas for some who have left the Forces can be tough. Whilst many of us are excitedly preparing for family celebrations and festivities, Christmas is not something everyone will be looking forward to.
For those struggling with debt, the financial outlay, expectations of others and marketing messages to 'spend spend spend' all around us will be causing anxiety and feelings of inadequacy.
For those facing or living with homelessness, it isn't only the symbolism of Christmas that is hard to cope with but also the onset of winter, of weather conditions that will make their lives even more difficult.
And for those used to the camaraderie and community of Christmas in the Forces, spending the festive period alone, or just as a civilian for the first time, can be a lonely and bewildering experience.
There are charities out there doing fantastic work helping these people, but we hope that with weServed, as well as gaining some of the practical benefits, all our ex-servicemen and women will feel like part of a 'family' once again.
So, please don't forget to let all your veteran friends know about the weServed community.
By signing up at weServed like you, they will also be the first to gain access to the services, rewards and benefits that weServed will provide exclusively to veterans.
